On behalf of Socially Conscious Capital, Scarp helped develop a masterplan for a high-quality area of new housing and open space that would form a logical complement to the village.  The layout and design of the housing reflected the historic characteristics and vernacular traditions of the northern part of Curbridge, conserving the historic integrity of the area with its many stone cottages, church buildings, mews and courtyards.

A wide corridor of new, publicly accessible natural greenspace was proposed alongside the stream that passes through the site, providing a rich ecological and recreational resource for the local community.  The design response was based on a robust contextual analysis, a sensitive response to local character and engagement with the local community at an early stage.  It led to proposals for an area of new housing and green infrastructure with a strong and distinctive character alongside the heart of the village.

Existing and proposed built form, vegetation, wildlife habitats and this extensive area of greenspace were designed to ‘feather’ together, providing a visually softer and more pleasing settlement fringe with enhanced public access, enhanced recreation opportunities and a stronger vernacular character.
